Anticipating the Future of Gaming: A Preview of Upcoming Titles
Introduction
The Game Awards always bring a flood of announcements, but certain titles stand out more than others. While there are many upcoming games I am excited about, these six from the awards are the ones that captured my imagination the most: No Law, Gang of Dragon, Tomb Raider, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, Larian’s Divinity, and Phantom Blade Zero. Each one connects to my gaming journey in a unique way, making the anticipation even more personal.
Tomb Raider (Next Installment)
Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Game Studios announced two new Tomb Raider titles: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (2026) and Tomb Raider: Catalyst (2027). Both are powered by Unreal Engine 5 and aim to push narrative depth and visual fidelity further than ever before. For me, Tomb Raider is more than just a franchise; I grew up watching my parents play the originals on PlayStation. Seeing Lara Croft return in such ambitious projects feels like coming full circle, connecting my childhood memories with the future of gaming.
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic
Lucasfilm Games and Arcanaut Studios revealed Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic at The Game Awards 2025. This single-player action RPG promises cinematic storytelling, Jedi‑Sith conflicts, and player-driven choices. Star Wars has been a continual influence in my life. The prequels were my starting point, and I vividly remember playing The Phantom Menace on PlayStation and watching it in the cinema. That experience led me down the rabbit hole of Star Wars lore, and this new chapter feels like a continuation of that lifelong journey.
Larian’s Divinity
Larian Studios, fresh off the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, announced a new Divinity project at The Game Awards 2025. Titled Divinity, it is described as the studio’s “biggest game ever,” even larger than Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian has cemented itself in my mind as a leader in the RPG space. Baldur’s Gate 3 has taken countless hours of my life, and I would not trade a second of it. Knowing the creators have promised something even bigger and more in-depth makes me eager to dive in all over again.
Phantom Blade Zero
Developed by S‑Game, Phantom Blade Zero is a wuxia-inspired action RPG set to release on September 9, 2026. The game features fluid martial-arts combat, interconnected regions, and a dark-fantasy narrative. I am especially excited because of my love for LitRPGs and cultivation stories, genres that make this game feel tailor-made for me. Titles like Where Winds Meet have already primed me for this style of storytelling, and Phantom Blade Zero looks like it will deliver that same mix of atmosphere and intensity.
No Law
No Law is the next project from Neon Giant, the studio behind The Ascent. Revealed at The Game Awards 2025, it is described as a cyber‑noir open-world shooter RPG set in Port Desire, a city ruled by gangs and corruption. Players take on the role of Grey Harker, an ex-military veteran navigating a reactive world where choices matter. Personally, I am drawn to how expansively this game looks like a world begging to be explored, with endless possibilities for storytelling.
Gang of Dragon
From Toshihiro Nagoshi, creator of the Yakuza series, Gang of Dragon is his first project under Nagoshi Studio. Revealed at The Game Awards 2025, the game stars actor Ma Dong-Seok and is set in Kabukicho, Tokyo’s iconic nightlife district. It promises brutal combat, cinematic storytelling, and human drama. I am excited because it looks vast and ambitious, and Nagoshi’s track record with Yakuza makes me confident this will deliver both action and heart.
Conclusion
While none of these titles have been released yet, anticipation itself is part of the gaming experience. Each game offers something distinct, whether it is dragons, Jedi, or Lara Croft’s next adventure. For me, these are not just announcements; they connect to my own history with gaming, from childhood memories to lifelong fandoms. As the industry continues to evolve, these projects remind me that the future of gaming is as much about imagination and personal connection as it is about technology.
