My Honest Take on the Xbox Showcase, What Stood Out, What Didn’t, and Why I’m Still a Skeptic

This year’s Xbox Showcase was packed, with a lot of games, a lot of genres, and a lot of opinions. And while most of the lineup is coming to Xbox, almost everything is also launching on Steam and PC, and in many cases, on other platforms as well. So even if something skips PS5, it’s still not an “exclusive ecosystem moment.”

If I had to grade the showcase, I’d give it a solid B. Plenty to see, plenty to like, but also plenty of reasons to stay cautious. I’m a skeptic by nature, and this showcase didn’t change that, but it did give me a handful of games I’m genuinely excited about.

Below are the titles that stood out to me, the ones I’m curious about, and the ones I’m keeping an eye on.

Games I’m Interested In (My Standouts)

  • Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish

    • Vampires, monsters, and a gritty tone. The pre‑alpha already looks promising, and it’s targeting Summer 2027. I want to see more, but the vibe is strong.

  • The Expanse

    • This was one of the biggest surprises. It has that Mass Effect energy, something I haven’t felt in a long time. If it sticks the landing, this could be special. Coming Spring 2027.

  • Forever Ago

    • Stylish, story‑driven, slice‑of‑life. A quiet game with emotional weight. Launching Fall 2026.

  • Moosa: Dirty Fate

    • Historical Korean setting, action RPG, Souls‑like. This one has personality. Coming in 2027.

  • Eternal Life of Goldman

    • Stylish platformer with a unique twist. It looks fun and distinct. Coming in 2026.

  • Stranger Than Heaven

    • Crime, combat, and multiple eras of Japan. Yakuza‑adjacent energy. More info in May.

Everything Else I Noticed

  • Wuthering Waves

    • JRPG energy, lots of mechanics, already out elsewhere. Coming to Xbox.

  • Grave Seasons

    • Pixel art farming sim with a horror twist. Demo soon. Launches 14 August 2026.

  • Serious Sam: Shatterverse

    • Wave‑based, run‑based, chaotic carnage. Exactly what you expect.

  • Super Meatball 3D

    • Hard platformer. Launching 31 March 2026.

  • Ascend to Zero

    • Roguelike with time control and a blocky art style. 13 July 2026.

  • Dispatch

    • Coming to Xbox in Summer 2026. Funny enough, I already played it on PS5.

  • ADS: Alien Deathstorm

    • Survival horror on a dangerous planet. Coming in 2027.

  • Frog Squad

    • Party platformer. June 2026.

  • Bluey: Happy Snaps

    • Kid‑friendly puzzles. Fall 2026.

  • Stalker 2: Cost of Hope

    • More Stalker, more story, more atmosphere. DLC coming Summer 2026.

  • Vaunted

    • Unique shooter with multiple playable characters.

  • Hades II

    • Coming to Xbox. More ways to play one of the best roguelikes ever. 14 April 2026.

  • Artificial Detective

    • Investigating a world where humanity vanished. Interesting premise, it seems like you’re protecting a young girl as the mystery unfolds. Coming in 2027.

Final Thoughts

This showcase spanned from pixel art to Souls-like to narrative indies to big sci-fi bets. But the real takeaway is this:

Xbox isn’t building a walled garden. They’re building a platform that lives alongside PC and Steam. And that means the value of the showcase isn’t exclusivity, it’s discovery. There’s a lot here worth watching, but also a lot that needs time. A B‑grade showcase: solid, promising, but not transformative. Let's see where Xbox is going.
